That's an excellent idea. I'm slowly working on adding the new version of FLIR into the plugin and can hopefully integrate something like this as well. I may need some help too due to time constraints.

Hey there,

I have a suggestion for a future version of FLIR for Wordpress.

With the advent of CSS3 support in major browsers, @font-face is becoming an excellent method for using non-standard fonts. I think it would be great for FLIR for Wordpress to detect CSS3 compliant browsers and serve an @font-face declaration for them (without loading the scripts, etc) and display the FLIR-ized page for older browsers.

This wouldn't be too hard, would it? I'd be willing to help!

-Erik

Hi. I have a WordPress blog that had the older version of FLIR on it working perfectly. Then I upgraded the blog to 2.9.1 and it stopped working. At the same time, FLIR was showing an available upgrade. Per the instructions on your plugin page, I deleted the old instance of FLIR via FTP and uploaded the newest version 0.8.8, and now I can't get it to work. I've used the same exact settings as before, uploaded the font, etc...but to no avail. The code is showing through Firebug that it's trying to generate the fonts, but nothing is showing but the default text for the H1 and H4 headings.

Here's the blog:

http://www.apreacherswife.com/

I also have another blog it was working on and now it's not, and I haven't upgraded that blog, so I don't think it's the upgrade:

http://adelightfulday.net/blog/

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

I think there is a way to handle letter spacing - I'll need to check. If you have imagemagick installed you might give that a try and see if it works.

Hopefully it because of the CSS. If not please let me know.

Hmm, that's odd but I'm glad it's working. The most common cause for jQuery not to work is a conflict with another plugin. Also, yes, you should be able to add
li.page_item
and have it effect those elements with that specific class. Let me know if you are having troubles.

Phenomenal plugin -- does what I want without the overhead and issues of sIFR, and kudos all around to the 23Systems team!

Two quick questions:

* Any way to handle letterspacing? Introducing tighter letterspacing in the CSS doesn't seem to change the appearance of the generated PNG files.

* When doing wholesale Facelifts on a page, most (but not all) of the resulting PNG files have a transparent background. Are the ones that are showing up with an opaque, white background doing so because of CSS calling such a background, or is this a bug?

Many thanks,
Greg

I'm sure this is a simple syntax error on my part..

Good Old Artisteer (my theme designer program) is spitting out something that looks like this:

<li class="page_item page-item-2">Stuff

I'm assuming that I can add li.page_item as an element to replace, but when I try that, it doesn't work and I just get text. Any ideas? (I have jquery switched on.)

If I try just "li" and not "li.page_item" it works just fine.. except I don't want every li to be the same font etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, here you go.

For JavaScript Method you need to select a JavaScript Method other than automatic. I recommend jQuery. You can then specify which elements you want to use in the Element Types to Replace text box in the basic configuration (last item.) For example you can use:

h1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6,small,blockquote,div#postinfo,p.date,div#sidebar a

You should also select which fonts to use in the Font List combo box. You can add true type fonts to the fonts folder under .../wp-content/plugins/facelift-image-replacement/facelift/fonts. You may need to rename the fonts so that they have no spaces in the name - underscores will work.

Then click Save FLIR Configuration.

Once that is done you should see a collapsed section called Elements to Replace. In there you can specify what fonts to use. The list is as follows:

Element - Which elements you configured to use.

Use - Check the box next to each element you want active.

Font - A drop down populated with the fonts you selected in Font List (above.)

Mode - Static, fixed size no matter what. Progressive, scales the font image to fit within the area the text takes up. Wrap, which keeps the fonts size constant but wraps the text in the image.

FancyFonts - Uses ImageMagick to render font images - only works if you have Image Magick installed. Don't use unless you are sure it is installed and are having issue rendering certain fonts.

Set all your options there and clear your cache in the FLIR for WordPress utilities section.

The color should be defined in your CSS as well as fonts sizes etc.

Hope that gets you started!

To add additional styles you want to have FLIR affect you need to add them to the Element Types to Replace field in the configuration. For example:

h
1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6,small,blockquote,div#postinfo,p.date,div#sidebar a

So for your block headers you would need to add div.BlockHeader-text save the options then in the Elements to Replace section you should be able to activate that option.

Okay, I've got the Facelift plugin for WP installed, it converts the default h1-h6 tags, I can assign different font types... but... how do I define the font size? Or change colours? Is Facelift bright enough to read the CSS color codes for the pre-existing text element, or does the color have to be defined in PHP or Javascript somewhere...?

Just get me pointed in the right direction, I'll figure it out sooner or later. Any assistance is greatly appeciated.

OK I am a total newb, can anyone tell me how to get the menu items replaced by the FLIR, as well as the headers to my blocks on the left. Basically where it says "Home - A Little about us -"etc.. and "newest products, shopping cart," etc, and also the slogan Live Laugh Wear Pretty Things, Love. I managed to get the header in there but I can't seem to figure out anything else. I am at my wits end!

Hi there.
First of all thanks for a great plugin. I have tested some other wordpress plugins that do the same thing, but I've found yours to be the best. I just have one problem. The menu items don't have the same baseline. What is causing the issue is one of the items which has "p" in it. It pushes this menu item higher than the other menu items. My website is offline for now so I can't send you a link.

I have seen this issue being addressed in another forum but I'm not sure what the solution is. Could you please tell me if there is a line of code I could use to fix this? and which file i would need to update? I have tried various fonts, including all the free fonts in the plugin but I have the same problem for all of them. Obviously if i have the menu in capital letters, it's all good.
FYI I am using the k2 plugin and applying facelift to ul.menu li.
Thank you so much for the support and for this forum...
Lisa

It worked! Nice. I'm using jQuery with FancyFonts, and it fixed itself.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

The Horizontal Text Bounds is set to what you say by default. As for Image Magick, I don't have that. If it will fix my issue, then I will install it.

I'll try, then post back with my results.

Thanks for your attention to this, Dan.

Two things to check though make sure the value of Horizontal Text Bounds contains the following:

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

And if you have Image Magick Installed you can try using the Fancy Fonts option

Thanks, I'll wait for some response. The people reading my site can assume what the words say without tails from p-g-y, etc. <img src="http://www.23systems.net/bbpress/my-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_wink.gif" title=";)" class="bb_smilies" />

Thanks for letting me know. I'll see if I can figure out what the problem is. I'll also check with Cory to see if he has any idea what the issue might be.

I originally posted this on WP's forums, but I think this may get better attention than there.

I'm using FLIR in my sidebar for H2 headers and H3 headers in my posts, and the height of the images generated cut off my text. I've tried to resize the font and it still does it. I've also emptied my FLIR cache, Firefox's cache and nothing new happens when I change settings. I've also tried changing fonts, but it still cuts off the text. FLIR was working great until the WP 2.8 update as well as the other plugin updates that came with that.

The site in question: http://pclove.us

Thanks for any help.
